Brian Portnoy is the managing director and head of alternatives and strategic initiatives at Chicago Equity Partners LLC, an institutional money manager with equity and fixed income capabilities.[1] He was appointed to this newly created position on June 27, 2012. In this role, Portnoy resports to the firm's president, Patrick Lynch, and assists in establishing innovative solutions for the firm's institutional clientele.
Background
Portnoy joined Chicago Equity Partners LLC from NorthCenter Capital Advisors, a firm he founded in December 2011.[2] While at NorthCenter, Portnoy served as senior advisor to a select number of hedge funds and other asset managers. Prior to that, he served as portfolio manager and director of research at the Vestian Investment Group from August 2010 – December 2011.
Portnoy also was the associate head of hedge fund research at Mesirow Financial from December 2003 – June 2010 and helped establish and manage the firms's London office and international manager research. From June 2000 – November 2003, he served as a senior analyst at Morningstar, where he analyzed equity and fixed income mutual funds.
Education
He received his B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan and a masters and PhD in international political economy from the University of Chicago. He also holds the chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation.
