A wholly owned subsidiary of the Chicago Climate Exchange, the world's first environmental derivatives exchange, the Chicago Climate Futures Exchange (CCFE) is a Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated futures exchange for U.S. SO2 allowances and U.S. NOx Ozone Season allowances. It was approved by the CFTC as a contract market in 2004.[1]

Clearing services for the CCFE are provided by The Clearing Corporation. Market surveillance services are provided by the National Futures Association (NFA), the industry wide, self-regulatory organization for the U.S. futures industry.[2]

Regular trading hours at the exchange are from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central Standard Time. The pre-open begins at 6:45 a.m. Central Standard Time.

On March 26, 2008 the CCFE announced that it established a new record for total daily volume with 7,856 contracts traded on March 26, 2008. CCFE also established a new daily volume record for the Nitrogen Financial Instrument - Annual (NFI-A) Futures contract with 2,106 contracts traded. The CCFE said it continues to experience growth in volume and open interest with 145,469 contracts traded to date in 2008 and open interest currently up 362% from the previous year with 64,948 contracts.[3]
