Nielsen worked for Dow Jones & Company for eight years and Knight-Ridder Financial for three years covering financial and economic news as a staff wire reporter. Her stories have run in Dow Jones publications The Wall Street Journal and Barron's, in addition to publications all over the world including BusinessWeek Chicago.

Her background includes work as an equity market analyst as well, and she's been quoted as an expert on the stock market by both WSJ.com and Agence France-Presse. She also did a stint for Business News Network as a host for a nationally syndicated radio show on the markets.

Her reporting career began back in Milwaukee, where she spent time as a community reporter for the daily newspaper the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Education

Nielsen, who does work in the nonfiction genre in her spare time, is currently enrolled in Northwestern University's master's program in creative nonfiction. She received an undergraduate degree in journalism with an English minor from Marquette University in the late 1990s and during that time also studied photography at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. She is a lifelong member of the journalism honor society Kappa Tau Alpha.

Activities

Nielsen has been involved in assisting and managing theater productions in Chicago and Paris. She also serves as the executive intercultural content editor for Living Earth Television (LETV)[2], a public t.v. effort which is working to create the world's first global, noncommercial television broadcasting service. LETV expects to launch a documentary series about China on PBS in 2009.
