The Doha Securities Market (DSM) was established in 1995 and started its activities on May 26, 1997. NYSE Euronext took a 25 percent stake in the exchange in June 2008 at a price of about $250 million[1]to transform the market into an international cash and derivatives exchange.[2]NYSE Euronext will provide technology for the exchange on both the equities and derivatives side.[3]
The administration and regulation of activities for the exchange in its original incarnation have been governed by the ‘Market Committee,’ which is comprised of 11 members recommended by the Minister of Economy and Commerce and appointed by the Council of Ministers, for a three-year term.[4]
In order to qualify for listing on the DSM, a company must have at least 100 shareholders, and a minimum share capital of QR 10 million, at least 50 percent of which must be fully paid. Listed companies must publish audited financial results annually, and also report interim results. DSM listed companies are also required to publish quarterly results.

History
The exchange started with manual trading of securities and converted to a central registration system implemented in August 1998. Trading became fully electronic on March 11, 2002. An over 100 percent jump in the value of shares in the first half of 2003 compared to the first half of 2002 was attributed to a mix of the impact of low interest rates and a growing fascination with international markets.
Total trading value during the week of July 6 through July 10 of 2008 reached QR 2.9 billion.[5]
