Dennis Dutterer is a futures industry consultant and long-time industry executive. Most recently he has consulted with the National Commodity Exchange Limited[1] and the Dubai Financial Services Authority.[2] He is currently an independent director of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange.[3]

Dutterer spent 20 years[4] at The Clearing Corporation, progressing from general counsel & corporate secretary to president and CEO and member of the board of directors. Previous positions also include interim president & CEO at the Chicago Board of Trade,[5][6][7]
In 1995, Dutterer participated in the Futures Industry Association's "Global Task Force on Financial Integrity" to address risk issues raised by the collapse of Barings PLC due to trading losses tied to rogue trader Nicholas Leeson.[8]
He was also general counsel of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission from 1981 to 1983 and a partner at the Washington Law firm Wiley, Rein & Fielding from 1983 to 1985.
Before beginning professional activities in the commodities industry, Dutterer was deputy chief of the civil division of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia from 1977 to 1981. Prior to that appointment he practiced as a trial lawyer from 1973 to 1977 at the United States Department of Justice, and served one year in 1977 as Assistant United States Attorney.[9]
Education
Dutterer holds a Masters of Law degree from George Washington University Law School; a Juris Doctorate degree from American University Law School; and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland.
