Equities are the class of securities traded on the cash market that represent a share in the capital of a company.[1]

Stocks are easily the most common form of equity investment, to the extent that the two terms have become virtually interchangeable. Strictly speaking, however, stocks are a form of equity. Also see the entry for Stocks.
