Execution management systems (EMSs) are software applications designed to provide access to trading venues. They contain algorithms, market data and technology that is able to predict market conditions. One of the important features of EMSs is that it can manage orders across multiple trading destinations such as; exchanges, brokers, crossing networks and electronic communications networks.

Traders who work directly with Wall Street counter-parties and Automated Transaction Networks utilize EMSs. [1]

Some EMS providers include Portware, FlexTrade and UNX. Major brokers also have their own EMS platform including Goldman Sachs's Rediplus and Citigroup's Lava Trading.
