Osten has been involved in the financial services industry in marketing and public relations roles since 1973, when she joined the public relations staff of the then-Chicago Board of Trade. During her five years at CBOT, the exchange changed focus from being a purely agricultural futures exchange to new areas, including metals and the famed Treasury bond futures market.

Before joining CBOE in March 2008, she did freelance marketing, public relations and writing for publications including the Wall Street Journal, Futures and Options World, SFO, and others, and was part of the original MarketsWiki team during its formative stages.

Osten was director of market education for CME Group through August 2007.[1] Her earlier association with CME spanned nearly 17 years (1982-1999), as she rose from manager of media relations to vice president of advertising and marketing services, directing all CME corporate and product advertising and direct marketing efforts, extensive collateral production and presentational support, and management of external client databases and event planning. More than 100 campaigns were launched under her direction, the most challenging being the marketing of the E-mini S&P 500 futures contract, a direct assault on the Chicago Board of Trade's Dow futures launch, at that time considered to be the front-running index.

From 1999 to 2001, Osten veered from the futures arena to become senior vice president of marketing and public relations for Transwestern Group, the umbrella organization for Transwestern Commercial Services, a national commercial real estate firm with 28 offices, and for Transwestern Investment Company, a privately held commercial property investment firm.[2]

Back to her roots, Osten became editor-in-chief (2002 through 2006) of Stocks, Futures and Options Magazine (SFO Magazine),[3] bringing the magazine from a semi-monthly to a monthly publication, with circulation of 120,000 subscribers. It was during these years (and 40 issues of the magazine), that she broadened her scope from a futures focus to one that included the equities side of the financial equation.

Other associations include director of public relations for MidAmerica Commodity Exchange, consultant for NQLX, and in her early career a direct-mail writer and producer for CNA Insurance.

Education

Osten received a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Northern Illinois University. Professional associations include serving as president of FIA Chicago, an officer of Public Relations Society of America, Agricultural Relations Council, American Association of Agricultural Editors and others.
