O’Connell rejoined the exchange as director of systems development in 1984. During the past 20 years, he has overseen the development and implementation of all the advanced systems used for options trading at the CBOE today.

O’Connell came to CBOE from Hyatt Hotel Corporation where he oversaw the development and implementation of a worldwide reservation system. Prior to his hotel experience, he was a principal in Front End Systems, which specialized in securities related systems development.

Education

O’Connell holds a Jurist Doctorate degree from John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Lewis University and is a member of both the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association.
