Sometimes called a financial advisor or investment counsel, an investment advisor is a person or organization employed to provide investment recommendations in return for a flat fee or percentage of assets managed, known as a commission.

For companies who specialize in mutual funds, it is the individual who has responsibility of investing and monitoring the cash and securities within the fund's portfolio with the aim of achieving the fund's objectives.
