The Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) is the only securities exchange in Turkey and was established to provide trading in equities, bonds and bills, revenue-sharing certificates, private-sector bonds, foreign securities and real-estate certificates as well as international securities.

The ISE was inaugurated in December 1985, and trading started in January 1986. Overseas investors were granted access in August 1989, and bonds were introduced in February 1992. Electronic trading started in December 1993, with full automation completed in November 1994. A new companies market as started in April 1995.

Derivatives trading started in August 2001, and continued until Jan. 28, 2005 when the Turkish Dervatives Exchange took over futures and options business.[1]


Structure and Regulation

The exchange is supervised by the Turkish Capital Markets Board.
