John F. (Jack) Sandner, a former CME chairman, has served as a director of CME Group since July 2007.[1][2]
Background

Previously he served as a director of CME Holdings' board since its formation in August 2001. Since July 2003 he has served as chairman of E*Trade Futures, LLC.
Sandner has been a member of CME's board since 1978 and a member of the exchange for more than 31 years. He also served as special policy advisor to CME Holdings' board from August 2001 to October 2005 and to CME's board from January 1998 to October 2005. Previously, he served as chairman of CME's board for 13 years. He was chairman of the CME when the CME and Matif conducted a historic technology swap, swapping the CME's Clearing 21® clearing system in return for the SBF-Paris Bourse's NSC electronic trading system.[3].
Sandner was previously president and CEO of RB&H Financial Services, L.P., from 1985 to November 2003, now a division of MF Global, Inc. Sandner serves as a consultant to RB&H Financial Services. He currently serves on the board of directors of National Futures Association and on the NFA Executive Committee.
In 2007, he was inducted into the Futures Industry Association Futures Hall of Fame.[4]
Previously, he was chairman and CEO of FreeDrive.com, an Internet applications and storage company and he currently serves on the board of Click Commerce, an Internet channel management software company.[5] Sandner is a member of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago.[6]
Sandner is a trustee of The University of Notre Dame,[7] honoary trustee of Roosevelt University,[8] Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center,[9] The Museum of Science and Industry of Chicago, The Auditorium Theatre Council Executive Board and chairs The Cancer Institute at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital.[10]
Politically in 2007, Sandner donated to John McCain 2008 Inc., Hillary Clinton for President, Romney for President and Friends of Richard Durbin Committee.[11]
Education
Sandner graduated as valedictorian from high school and received a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Illinois University.[12] He holds a doctor of jurisprudence degree from University of Notre Dame, where he also received the Law School’s Dean Clarence Manion and A. Harold Weber Awards and won the 3-year moot-court competition. While at Notre Dame, he earned a fellowship to the Law Science Academy, where he won the Dr. Ruth Jackson Award and graduated with high honors. In May 1994, Roosevelt University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.[13]
In 1998 Sandner was a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award,[14][15][16] and the CME named an endowed chair “Chicago Mercantile Exchange John F. Sandner Chair in Futures and Options Studies” at Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.[17]
In 2006, the University of Notre Dame awarded Sandner an honorary degree.[18] Sandner and his family funded the single largest purchase of materials in the history of the Kresge Law Library, creating the John F. Sandner Family Law Library Collection, when the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) made its entire collection available for sale.[19]
