Joan Hortala in Arau is President of the Barcelona Stock Exchange. He is a leading economist, politician and academic in Spain.[1]

Born in 1942, he speaks English, French and German and is a professor at the School of Commerce.


Background

When he was 24, he won the chair of Economic Theory at the University of Barcelona. He has been alderman-minister of municipal services of Barcelona City Council (between 1979 and 1980), member of Parliament of Catalonia (1980 to 1992), a member of the joint committees State Government of Transfers and Valuations (1980 to 1984) and Minister of Industry and Energy of the Catalan government from 1984 to 1987.[2]

Education

He is a graduate in law and economics and a doctor in economics from the University of Barcelona and the London School of Economics.
