John Sievwright is senior vice-president and COO International of Merrill Lynch, and former COO of global markets and investment banking[1].
Background
Sievwright joined Merrill Lynch in 1988 from Bankers Trust, and as chief administrative officer for the debt markets division from 1990 to 1993 played a key role in building its equity derivatives business. He headed global financial futures and options and was co-chairman of Merrill Lynch Futures from 1995-1998, and chairman of the Futures Industry Association in 1997. He was president and COO of Merrill Lynch Japan Securities from 1998-2001.
He left the bank and was a non-executive director of FirstGroup, a UK transportation company, from 2002-2004, rejoining Merrill Lynch as COO for global markets and investment banking from January 2004 to May 2007.
Education
He holds a C.A. from the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Scotland and a Master of Arts degree in accounting and economics from University of Aberdeen.
