History

The exchange was first founded as a rice exchange in 1893 in Shimonoseki, Japan (possibly originally?) as the Kanmon Commodity Exchange. It was closed during World War II, and reopened in 1953.[1] In May 1998, the exchange shifted names to the Fukuoka Futures Exchange and relocated to Fukuoka.[2]

Facing increasing competition from Tokyo exchanges and under pressure from declining business and volume, the exchange merged in December 2006 with the Kansai Commodities Exchange in Osaka.[1]
