A large cap stock is one which is tied to a company that has a high market capitalization. Often, the gauge of a large cap is if the company has over $5 billion in capitalization. Other categories are $1 billion to $5 billion for mid caps and $250 million to $1 billion for small caps. The stock for a company with a capitalization of under $250 million is considered a micro cap stock.
Large-cap value funds seek capital appreciation by investing primarily in large companies with market capitalizations of $5 billion or more.[1][2]
