John J. Lothian is the founder and owner of MarketsWiki.[1][2][3]

He is also a futures broker, newsletter editor and publisher, Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) and industry consultant.[4] Lothian is the president & CEO of John J. Lothian & Company, Inc.,[5] a National Futures Association member CTA.

Futures Broker

Lothian is head of electronic trading for Price Futures Group, Inc.,[6] one of the industry’s leading Introducing Brokers.[7] Lothian joined The Price Group in late 1997 as president of a newly created Electronic Trading Division. He is also registered with Price Group affiliate Price Asset Management, Inc. and helps CTAs market their money management programs.

Previously Lothian was a part owner of a small introducing brokerage firm, an account representative with a CBOT member firm owned by the late John H. (Bud) Frazier and a broker with a Chicago-based FCM. He was a member of the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange in 1989-90. He started his career as a news reporter with Knight Ridder/Commodity News Service. Additionally, he worked for discount commodity firm First American Discount Corp. (“FADC”) during their early years. FADC is now part of MF Global Inc., formerly Man Financial Inc. MF Global is the clearing firm used by Price Group.

Newsletter Publishing

Lothian is editor and publisher of the John Lothian Newsletter[8][9] and publisher of Environmental Markets Newsletter. The JLN is an eponymous daily email newsletter about the derivatives, securities and environmental markets and related industries. Environmental Markets is about the growing environmental markets related to global warming and alternative fuels and energy.

Trading

John J. Lothian is the sole principal of John J. Lothian & Company, Inc., a Commodity Trading Advisor. JJLCO has two managed futures programs; Big ED and Maple Sugar. The trading methology behind the managed programs was created by Marketswiki development team member Jon Matte, formerly of Defender Capital Management, Inc. JJLCO purchased the trading programs and intellectual property rights behind them from Defender.

Lothian was a member of the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange in 1989-90 and prior to that a member of a proprietary trading group at LIT America.[32]

Education

He is a 1983 graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Management/Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Journalism.[33]

Lothian is married and lives in Elmhurst, IL with his wife Cheryl and their three children.

Additionally, Lothian is the District Chairman of Potawatomi Trails District of Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America.[34] He serves as Cub Scout Den Leader, Boy Scout Assistant Scout Master and merit badge counselor. He is also an AYSO soccer referee.

At the 2007 Futures Industry Association EXPO in Chicago, Lothian was the target of 18 pies thrown at him for a fundraiser for Boy Scouts. A 490 MB movie was taken of the event and must be downloaded to view.[35]
