Matthew Andresen is president of Citadel Execution Services, an affiliate of Citadel Investment Group, LLC.[1][2] Citadel manages over $20 billion from its headquarters in Chicago and offices in San Francisco, New York, London, and Tokyo. Citadel Execution Services routes 500,000 options contracts a day and executes over 100 million shares a day on behalf of retail brokerage firms.
In addition to CES, Andresen also runs global equity trading for Citadel. He also led Citadel's investments in the PHLX and BOX Exchanges. Mr. Andresen served on the board of advisors of the PHLX prior to its acquisition by Nasdaq OMX. Andresen also served on the board of directors of Lava Trading, a New York-based trading technology company, until its sale to Citigroup.[3]

Before joining Citadel in June of 2004, Andresen was president and CEO of Island ECN, the largest electronic stock market in the United States. As one of the first three employees at Island, he was responsible for all strategic and operational decisions. In June of 2002, Mr. Andresen affected the sale of Island to its largest competitor, Instinet, in a transaction valued at $568 million. After the merger, Andresen assumed the duties of chief operating officer for the combined ECN.
While running Island, Andresen lived downtown in New York City at the time of the attacks on the World Trade Center.[4]
In 1993, Andresen was a junior assistant on a commodities trading desk at Lehman Brothers.[5]
Andresen has appeared as an expert before many congressional committees on subjects as diverse as Venture Capital in Biotechnology, the Future of Electronic Markets, the Impact of Technology on Commodity Markets, and the Effect of September 11 on Financial Markets. He is a regular commentator on various financial and news outlets.
Andresen is a former world-class fencer who was a National Champion and an alternate for the 1996 U.S. Olympic fencing team.
Andresent and his wife have 3 biological and one adopted children, having adopted a 10 year-old Chinese girl from Hunan Province.[6]
Education
He grew up in Chapel Hill, N.C. and attended Duke University where he earned a bachelor of arts in economics and political science.[7][8]
