Other categories are over $5 billion in capitalization for a large cap and $250 million to $1 billion for small caps. The stock for a company with a capitalization of under $250 million is considered a micro cap stock.
Beginning in 1991, the creators of securities benchmarks introduced indexes for middle-capitalization stocks, such as the Standard & Poor's MidCap 400 Index and the Russell Midcap Index.[1]
