History
NYSE Amex Options was formed when NYSE acquired the American Stock Exchange (Amex) in January 2008 to expand its U.S. options business. The merger agreement was approved by The Amex Membership corporation on June 17, 2008.
On March 2 of 2009, NYSE Euronext announced that NYSE Amex options, one of the company’s two U.S. options exchanges, had completed its transition to the new trading floor located at 11 Wall St., New York. The new facility was adjacent to the New York Stock Exchange equities trading floor and was comprised of two adjoining rooms with new trading pits. As part of the transition, NYSE finished moving about 300 traders and floor officials from the Amex building to the New York Stock Exchange.[2]
The exchange contended that NYSE Amex options trading community and customers would benefit from enhanced speed, order executions and capacity improvements of NYSE Arca technology.[3]

Steven Crutchfield was named CEO of NYSE Euronext’s two U.S. options exchanges, NYSE Amex Options and NYSE Arca Options earlier this month. The move marks a new management strategy for NYSE’s options markets, which had been managed separately. Crutchfield spoke with John Lothian News editor-in-chief Jim Kharouf about the new management structure, new initiatives for market makers and in risk management as well as dealing with lower options volumes this year.
