Neal Shear joined Apollo Management L.P., a private equity firm, in spring of 2008 after spending more than 25 years at Morgan Stanley. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Institute for Financial Markets.[1]
Background
While at the New York-based Morgan Stanley, Shear was the co-head of its Institutional Sales and Trading arm from August 2005 to March 2008. In this position, he was responsible for the firm's Institutional Equities and Fixed Income divisions, created to enhance the integration of those businesses at Morgan Stanley. Previously he had been global head of the fixed income division of Morgan Stanley since March 2005, and served as its head of commodities business and trading. He also was chairman of industry-leading commodities business of Morgan Stanley toward the end of his tenure with the company.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Shear was a trader at Citicorp from 1978 to 1979 and J. Aron & Company - the commodity subsidiary of Goldman, Sachs & Company - from 1979 to 1982.
Education
Shear received a BS from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Cornell University.[2]
