The Organization For Economic Co-Operation And Development (OECD) brings together governments of countries committed to democracy and the market economy from around the world in an effort to support sustainable economic growth, boost employment, raise living standards, maintain financial stability, assist other countries' economic development and contribute to growth in world trade. It was established in 1961.
The OECD also shares expertise and exchanges views with more than 100 other countries and economies, from Brazil, China, and Russia to the least developed countries in Africa.[1]
With the Kyoto Treaty, the members of the OECD as of 1992 and the countries of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe pledged to cut anthropogenic emissions of six greenhouse gases during a five-year commitment period, 2008 to 2012.[2]
