Patel also launched new products overseas, such as futures based on the BSE's benchmark Sensex index, which trade on the US Futures Exchange.

On Aug. 8, 2008, Patel resigned amid a reported management shakeout at the BSE. Mahesh Soneji, chief operating officer, was designated as the caretaker manager of the exchange until Patel could be replaced.[3]
