Richard D. Berliand,[1] global head of prime services at JP Morgan, plans to retire at the end of 2010. Berliand joined J.P. Morgan & Co. in 1987 and served in various capacities at the company both in London and in the United States, helping with the integration of Bear Stearns in 2008.[2]
Background
At the time his retirement was announced, Berliand was an FCM representative [3] on the board of directors of National Futures Association, a special advisor to the board for the Futures Industry Association (FIA)[4] and special advisor to the board of directors of the Futures and Options Association (FOA).[5] In addition, he serves as a member of the CFTC Global Markets Advisory Committee.[6] [7]
On March 14 2008, Berliand was inducted into the Futures Hall of Fame.[8] In January of 2009, Berliand, along with Michael Dawley of Goldman Sachs, were named as interim co-chairmen of the FIA heading into the March 2009 FIA Boca Raton International Conference. At the 2009 FIA Boca Raton Conference, Goldman Sachs' Mike Dawley was elected chairman of the FIA.[9][10]
From 2006 to 2007, Berliand served as chairman of the Futures Industry Association (FIA). He assumed chairman from the Joseph Murphy, who stepped down following the bankruptcy of Refco.[11] [12][13]
Berliand is a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Börse AG.[14]
Education
Berliand earned an MA degree from Downing College, Cambridge.
