Robert Steele is a member of the board of directors of the CME Group.[1] Previosuly, he served as a NYMEX Holding Inc. director. He became a director of CME Group as part of the completion of the acquisition process of Nymex by CME Group Inc. in 2008.[2]His term as CME director will expire in 2009.[3]

Steele had served as chairman of the NYMEX compensation committee and served on the audit and corporate governance and nominating committees. He was a public director of the NYMEX exchange from 1988 to 1994 and was reappointed to its board in 1999.

Steele is a former banker and was a vice chairman of the John Ryan Company and a director of the Merlin Retail Financial Center.

Steele has served as a director of the American Stock Exchange and NLC Mutual Insurance Company, and was chairman of publicly listed Moore Medical Corp. prior to its sale.

He was a U.S. Congressman (Second District, CT 1970-1974), serving on the House Foreign Affairs committee and chairing or co-chairing Congressional Task Forces on international drug trafficking and problems of the aging. He was appointed chairman of the social security committee of the White House conference on aging.

Steele served as a Soviet affairs specialist in the Central Intelligence Agency, and was a visiting lecturer in government at the United States Coast Guard Academy.[4]

Education

Steele is the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.
