Spot Trading is a privately held, technology-focused trading firm that specializes in equity options.[1] The firm is located in the Chicago Financial District and has grown considerably since its creation.

With the stated aim of maximizing the firm's risk-adjusted return, Spot implements a proprietary trading model.[2]

The firm's workforce is composed of a variety of traders, equity research analysts, financial engineers, technologists, and financial analysts.

The CEO of the firm is Robert D. Merrilees, but he will assume the role of Chairman on April 1, 2013. Stephen A. Brodsky will move from the CFO position to CEO at that time.[3]

Spot Trading is a member of the Principal Traders Group, an affiliate of the Futures Industry Association.

History

Rob Merrilees founded Spot Trading in 1999.[4][5]Merrilees is also managing director, co-owner and co-founder of YJT Solutions, a Chicago-based technology consulting firm that provides services to financial exchanges, clearing firms, trading firms, banks, broker-dealers and hedge funds.

In 2006, the firm deployed the TeamWorks BPM platform to help it manage and automate various trading processes.[6]

Spot Trading appointed Stephen A. Brodsky, 39, as Chief Financial Officer starting Nov. 22, 2010.

In July 2011, Spot Trading was named one of "Chicago's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work for" by the National Association of Business Resources (NABR).[7]
