History
TickIt Trading Systems is a trading software technology company co-founded in 2009 by Michael Unetich, a futures trader with more than 15 years of experience, and Richard Lane, a computer programmer who began his professional career designing computer-based war games and terrorist network tools for the Department of Defense.
Unetich, who founded his own proprietary firm called Unetich Trading in 2004, transitioned to an automated trading firm. In 2005, Unetich and Lane worked over the next 4 1/2 years to develop a new front-end and automated trading system for traders, which is the foundation for Tickit.[3]
TickIt is designed to offer customers design services that allow traders to build an algorithm trading system via a drag-and-drop system.[4]
In 2010, TickIt Trading Systems was nominated for the Illinois Technology Association's 'Newcomer' award as one of the companies with the strongest potential as a start up to distinguish itself in the technology marketplace. [5]
TickIt was acquired by Trading Technologies on June 9, 2010.
In June 2010, TickIt was awarded one of the finalists in Red Herring's North America initiative to honor cutting edge companies and technologies that are positioned to grow at an explosive rate. [6]
Products and Services
TickIt's flagship application, the Algo Design Lab, is a disruptive technological platform that allows traders to design, create and deploy their own end to end automated high frequency trading programs without having to write code. According to the firm, using building block icons and a circuit-design technique, trade designers can shave up to 95 percent of the time required to write and test trading programs using the TickIt platform.
TickIt Plus is the firm's automated black box trading service which provides a platform that any advanced trader can use to develop an automated trading program. The product is designed so traders can build the system in a very short period of time using Tickit's building block icons.
In March 2010, the firm introduced TickIt SIM, a simulated market where traders can test their strategies using live market data.[7]
