BOCI Global Commodities (UK) Ltd. is a unit of BOC International Holdings Ltd., an investment banking subsidiary of Bank of China Ltd. On April 24, 2012, BOCI Global Commodities was approved for category two associate broker clearing membership with the London Metal Exchange and became the first Chinese LME member. This membership allows BOCI Global Commodities to trade by phone and electronically.[1]

BOCI Global Commodities applied for membership with the LME on March 28, 2012.[2] The company's metals brokerage team will employ eight people in London, and will need to purchase 25,000 B shares in the LME to activate membership. According to Dow Jones Newswires in April 2012, the LME was rumored to be working on approvals for a network of Chinese metal warehouses.[3]
