The Carbon Financial Instrument or (CFI) was launched as a cash contract on the Chicago Climate Exchange, each of which represents 100 metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions.
The CFI is also offered on the Chicago Climate Futures Exchange as futures and options contract. The futures contract represents 1,000 metric tons of CCX CO2, or 10 cash CFI contracts. CFI options represents 1 CFI Options contract.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission ruled on May 4, 2010 that the CFI offered on the Chicago Climate Exchange does not perform a significant price discovery function.
