Emil van Essen Managed Futures was founded by Emil van Essen. He has been a registered commodity trading advisor since 1997.[1]

The firm was the recipient of two BarclayHedge "BTOP" awards at the Managed Futures Pinnacle Awards held on June 11, 2012, for: Best Return (High Volatility - Diversified) for $100-299M AUM and Best Defensive (Diversified) for $100-299M AUM.[2]

In December 2006, van Essen launched a spread trading program focused on commodities. The program, targeted at institutional and qualified investors, originally focused on roll arbitrage - pricing inefficiencies in commodity spreads resulting from commodity funds rolling their positions from the spot month to a deferred delivery date. Van Essen has since expanded into fixed income markets, including a program solely focused on yield curve inefficiencies.[3]
