Williams later served as the founding president of the J. Paul Getty Trust and oversaw construction of the Getty Center.
He died in 2017 at the age of 89.
Williams was born in Philadelphia on Jan. 5, 1928. He and his family moved to the western U.S. when an older brother earned a scholarship at USC.
He served in the military during the Korean War.
Williams was a tax attorney with Hunts Foods who rose to become the president of Hunts Wesson Foods, Inc. He became the dean of the UCLA’s Anderson School of Management in 1970 and a confidant of philanthropist Norton Simon and served as the chairman of the board of Norton Simon Inc.
Williams earned a bachelor of arts in political science from UCLA while on a scholarship and graduated Phi Beta Kappa at age 18.
He later earned a law degree at Harvard.
