Finance-industry magazine Institutional Investor (II) recently celebrated its 40th year of publishing breaking news and issues in international investment markets. Based in New York City and owned by the parent company of London-based rival Euromoney, II also produces newsletters and directories plus a ranking system that ahs set industry benchmarks in global finance.

History

Institutional Investor was launched in 1967 by Gilbert E. Kaplan, who remained as the magazine's publisher until 1990 and its editor-in-chief until 1993 and later became an orchestra conductor.[1] It was purchased three years late by the parent company of rival magazine Euromoney for $142 million,[2] and the parent company afterwards changed its name to Euromoney Institutional Investor plc.

Products and Services

Today, II's global circulation is over 130,000 while its companion publication, hedge-fund specialist Alpha Magazine, claims 13,000 circulation.[3] II magazine also hands out annual awards that honor a range of global-investment industry leaders who have made a significant impact on the industry over the past year.[4]

Key People

II's New York-based publisher Christine Cavolina has held the position since 2003 and had previously been London-based Deputy Publisher of stablemate Euromoney magazine.[5] Editor Mike Caroll first joined Institutional Investor Inc. in 1994 and was appointed an executive director in 2002, while President Chris Brown joined in 1982 and became an executive director in 1989.
