John S. Reed is chairman of the MIT Corporation in 2010 after being a member since 1980 and a life member since 1985.[1]

He serves on the boards of the Spencer Foundation in Chicago and National Writing Project and is a trustee of MDRC, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the NBER.

Background

Reed is a former chairmen and CEO of CitiGroup.

Reed served as an interim chief executive officer at the New York Stock Exchange from September 2003 to January 2004 and served as its interim chairman since Sept. 21, 2003.[2] He has been a member of numerous corporate and non-profit boards and advisory groups, including Monsanto, Phillip Morris, The Rand Corporation, The National Bureau of Economic Research, The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He also has served as a director of Altria Group Inc. from 1975 to September 2003.

He was named to the FDIC Advisory Committee on June 3, 2011.[3]

Education

He received his bachelor’s degrees from MIT and Washington & Jefferson College, as well as a master’s degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
