Michael Ellam is managing director of the U.K. Treasury’s international and finance directorate and was appointed chairman of the European Union’s financial services regulation committee in April 2011. 
Ellam was previously a spokesman for Prime Minister Gordon Brown. He was widely admired in the UK for his work in the run-up to, and during, the G20 summit in London in April 2009. He first came to Brown's attention when he worked as director of communications at the Treasury.
