Patricia Woertz is chairman and CEO of Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). She was appointed to the position in May 2006 and is the eighth CEO in the company's 100-plus-year history. She also held the title of president until handing it to ADM's chief operating officer Juan Luciano in February 2014.
On January 1, 2015 Woertz will step down as CEO and be replaced by Luciano. Woertz will remain chairman but is expected to retire in May 2016.
Before joining ADM, Woertz served as executive vice president of Chevron Corporation, one of the largest energy companies in the world. There she led the company's refining, marketing, lubricant, supply and trading business with more than $100 billion in revenues.
Born in 1953, she graduated from Penn State University in 1974 and began her career with Ernst & Young in Pittsburgh as a certified public accountant. She joined Gulf Oil Corp. in 1977 and held positions in refining, marketing, strategic planning and finance.
After Gulf merged with Chevron in 1987, Woertz led organizations in finance, information technology, strategic planning, refining and marketing. She later served as president of Chevron Canada and later Chevron International Oil Company. She was named executive vice president of global downstream with the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2001.
Since 2000, Fortune magazine has named her one of the top ten most powerful women in business.
In September 2014, Crain's Chicago Business named her as No. 1 on its list of Chicago's top 20 most powerful women in Chicago business.
She received a bachelor's of science degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of Columbia University's international executive development program.
