Ross McEwan was named chief executive of National Australia Bank in July 2019.

Prior to taking the role, he served as CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group starting in October 2013 until November 2019. He was succeeded at RBS by Alison Rose.[1]

Background

Between August 2012 and September 2013, he was chief executive officer for UK Retail. He joined RBS from Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where he was group executive for retail banking services for five years. Before that he was executive general manager with responsibility for the branch network, contact centers and third party mortgage brokers.[2]

McEwan has more than 25 years experience in the finance, insurance and investment industries. Before joining Commonwealth Bank of Australia, he was managing director of First NZ Capital Securities. He was also chief executive of National Mutual Life Association of Australasia Ltd / AXA New Zealand Ltd.

Education

He has an MBA from Harvard.
