Berkovitz was named general counsel of the CFTC in June of 2009.<ref>{{cite web|url=|name=Press Release|org=CFTC|date=June 2, 2009}}</ref>Berkovitz, who previously served as counsel to the [[Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations]], had led investigations into [[energy market]]s, authored a number of law review and trade journal articles on the regulation of [[nuclear energy]] and wastes.
