Dr. Stefan Boel is an executive board member at Aurubis, Europe's largest copper producer. He was appointed in April 2008 and oversees the company's copper products sector.

In February 2012, Boel strongly opposed the sale of the London Metal Exchange (LME), saying that the quest for profit in such a sale would undermine the exchange's original goals of price discovery and risk protection.[1]

Background

Prior to joining Aurubis, Boel was the vice president of copper refining and mining projects and a member of the executive committee at Cumerio, which merged with Norddeutsche Affinerie to become Aurubis in December 2008. Cumerio had broken from the Umicore Group, where Boel was a commercial director of the company's plant in Bulgaria. Before that, he worked as an application and marketing manager for the Umicore copper division beginning in 2001.

Boel worked in various positions in production, supply chain management and sales for Aralco N.V. in Belgium.[2] He began his career as a production assistant at Aralco Colors.

Education

  • Ph.D., University of Antwerp
  • Heilige Maagd College, Dendermonde[3]
