Wiet Pot worked for Goldman Sachs for 17 years from 1986 to 2003, most recently as co-COO of the equities division worldwide. He has been a partner since 1994. Between 2003 and 2004 he was first advisor and then, briefly, a member of the executive board of Hagemeyer. Between 2003 and 2004 he was a member of the supervisory board of Kempen & Co and between 2004 and 2006 he was executive chairman of the board. 
Pot studied Law at the University of Leiden and following his graduation in 1981 he earned an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau (France) in 1982.
