Charles “Chuck” Ellis Schumer is a U.S. Senator for New York. He also sits on the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Judiciary Committee, where he is chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security; the Joint Economic Committee, where he is the vice chairman; and the Joint Committee on the Library. He is the third highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate.
In July of 2009, Schumer wrote a letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission proposing to ban flash trades, noting an unfair advantage they created for hedge funds and Wall Street firms utilizing automated trading strategies.
