Gay Huey Evans, OBE, was elected Chairman of the Board of the London Metal Exchange (LME). She replaced Sir Brian Bender, who retired in December 2019. She is an independent non-executive director of Standard Chartered PLC, Bank Itau BBA International Limited and ConocoPhilips. She is a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations and serves as a non-executive member of the UK HM Treasury Board.[1][2]

At Standard Chartered she is also chair of the Board Committee on Financial Crime and serves as a member of the Risk Committee.[3]

Background

Evans also served on the boards of the London Stock Exchange and Aviva plc, and as deputy chairman of the Financial Reporting Council.

She received an OBE in 2016 for services to financial services and diversity.[4]

Evans has more than three decades of experience in the financial services industry, international capital markets and financial regulation. She began at Bankers Trust in 1984 and served as chair of ISDA from 1994 to 1998.

She then spent several years at the Financial Services Authority as director of markets division, capital markets sector leader, responsible for, among other things, establishing a market facing division for the supervision of market infrastructure, oversight of market conduct and developing markets policy. From 2005 to 2008 she held several roles at Citi, including head of governance, Citi Alternative Investments, EMEA between 2007 and 2008.[5][6]

Evans joined Barclays Capital in 2008 where she was vice chair of investment banking and investment management, responsible for Barclays’ relationships with sovereign funds globally.

Education

She holds a bachelor of arts in economics from Bucknell University. She is a trustee of the Beacon Collaborative (former Chair of Beacon Awards), a trustee of Wellbeing Of Women, serves on Chatham House’s 20th Century Committee and is a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations.
