Hans-Ole Jochumsen was vice chairman of Nasdaq from January 1, 2017 to his retirement in the fall of 2018. He had previously been president, global trading and market services.
In January 2019 Coindesk reported that Jochumsen had joined the advisory board of Concordium Foundation, the Swiss non-profit developing a cryptocurrency with a built-in compliance function.
Jochumsen had a major role in many of the acquisitions under former Nasdaq chief executive Bob Greifeld, including the $400 million acquisition of Chi-X Canada and the $1.1 billion deal for International Securities Exchange in 2016. He also launched Nasdaq’s energy futures market.
He had been the executive vice president of Transaction Services Nordics, an integrated marketplace of seven independent Nordic and Baltic exchanges, also called The Nordic Exchange, which offers trading of Nordic and Baltic securities shares, derivatives and fixed income products. He was also responsible for broker services, OMX's offering of back-office and custody solutions to Nordic clients.
He was head of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange and merged it with its rival the Stockholm Exchange in 2005. He was also an active member of industry lobbying groups, in particular the Federation of European Securities Exchanges and World Federation of Exchanges.
Jochumsen's responsibilities at Transaction Services Nordics included leading the Nordic and Baltic markets to maintain and develop a strong strategic position in the Northern European securities markets.
Prior to the merger between NASDAQ and OMX, Jochumsen served as president and member of the OMX executive team. He played a key role in the strategic development of OMX and the business area of information services & new markets in particular.
During Jochumsen's tenure, OMX successfully launched the Nordic Market Data offering, bringing the market data distribution from seven different Nordic and Baltic marketplaces into one source. Jochumsen also led the launch of the news distribution service and significant developments on the Baltic markets.
Jochumsen served as president and CEO of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange during its turnaround from 1998-2006.
From 1990 to 1998 Jochumsen served as member of the management board of the following Danish financial institutions: BRFkredit, GiroBank and BG Bank, the latter being the third-largest bank in Denmark.
Jochumsen holds M.Sc. degree in Economics from University of Copenhagen.
