ION Trading Ireland Ltd. (ION Trading) is a privately held, global provider of multi-asset class trading software, largely focused on fixed income markets. The firm, previously known as ION Trading Capital Partners, provides e-trading solutions to develop models and business logic for financial institutions.[1]

ION is also a major shareholder in Patsystems Plc, with an equity stake of 29.06 percent in the software vendor. In November 2011, ION approached Patsystems with a 14p per share offer, a value of £29m. Patsystems estimated that MF Global Holdings Ltd. owed it £900,000 following its the broker-dealer's collapse, further impacting ION.[2]

History

CEO Andrea Pignataro founded ION in 1999. ION is backed by TA Associates, an investment company that bought 30 percent for €35m in 2004. Headquarters are located in Dublin, Ireland, with ION offices in London, New York, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid, Toronto, Chicago, Singapore, Italy, India and Australia.[3]

ION purchased back-office software firm Rolfe & Nolan in July 2008.[4]

ION offers Multi-Market Interface, a trading interface that allows traders to operate in multiple dealer-to-dealer and dealer-to-customer electronic markets.

The company’s Multi-Market Interface also supports automated tools, such as The Auto-Hedger, a tool that submits hedges to a specified market on receipt of a trade notification from any cash or derivatives market, The Multi-Market Spread Trading Tool, which allows traders to create strategies that trade with risk management profiles, and Market-Making tools to manage market pricing obligations. [5]
