John Griffith-Jones is the former non-executive chairman of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the U.K. financial regulator.[1] He chaired the organization from its creation in April 2013 to March 31, 2018, when he stepped down from the regulator.

Background

Before joining the FCA, Griffith-Jones was the joint chairman of KPMG Europe and senior partner at KPMG's KPMG LLP (UK)|UK division. Jones had worked for KPMG since 1975. He began in audit services, working there for 11 years, and then moved to professional practice for one year. He specialized on the shipping industry during this time. Jones then spent 15 years in corporate finance for KPMG. He was named a partner at the company following the merger that resulted in KPMG LLP. He did business in the U.S., Sweden, Bahrain, Greece and Hong Kong, as a mergers and acquisitions (M&A) practitioner and government advisor on privatizations and private finance initiatives (PFIs).

Griffith-Jones became chief executive officer of the UK firm, and became the UK chairman and senior partner on Oct. 1, 2006. He was named joint chairman of KPMG Europe on Oct. 1, 2007 and the Environmental Markets Association (EMA) chairman on Oct. 1, 2008.
