Peter Mwangi was appointed chief executive of the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) in November, 2008 after serving as managing director of Kenyan listed private equity firm Centum Investment, where he was rumored to have disagreed with its board over strategy. [1] On taking the job he ranked demutualization of the NSE "very, very highly" on his list for 2009. [2]

Background

Mwangi began his career at Centum Investment as the company's investment manager and company secretary [3] and later spent five years as managing director before moving to the NSE's top job. Under his leadership the firm, formerly a Kenyan-government lending agency known as ICDC, rebranded itself and signed several major new investment deals. [4]

He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) and the Institute Of Directors (IOD).

Education

Mwangi is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
