Ibrahim M. Turhan is an Istanbul-based exchange executive, central banker and university professor. He most recently served as chairman and CEO of Borsa Istanbul, formed from the merger of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Istanbul Gold Exchange, and the Turkish Derivatives Exchange (TurkDex).[1][2] He resigned from that position in February 2015 in order to run for Parliament.[3]

He also served as the president of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges (FEAS) and is a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) board of directors.[4]


Before joining Borsa Istanbul, Turhan was deputy governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. He was in charge of monetary policy international relations, communication, investor relations, accounting, information technology, human resources, procurement, logistics, fixed investments and real estate management.


Turhan holds a doctor of philosophy in economics from Marmara Üniversitesi. He dissertation was titled: Financial Crises and Their Effects on The Real Economy: The Case of Turkey.

He also holds research doctorates from Loughborough University in banking and finance and in financial economics from Université de Geneve

He holds a master of arts in international banking from Marmara Üniversitesi and a bachelor of arts degree from Bogazici University in business administration and general management.
