Abner M. Wright Occupation President - 1887 Employer Chicago Board of Trade Location Chicago Abner M. Wright was a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and served as its president in 1887. Background Wright was president of the Chicago Board of Trade during the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. He fought against gambling interests that were in business with telegraph companies. In one instance, Wright "forcibly removed the instruments of the Postal Telegraph Company and the Baltimore and Ohio Telegraph Company from the floor of the exchange, literally throwing their equipment out of the building." Wright was a Republican candidate for Mayor of Chicago and was defeated by Carter Harrison. Education References
