Aitan Goelman is the director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Division of Enforcement. He was appointed to that position on June 11, 2014, succeeding David Meister.[1] Goelman is a former federal prosecutor with more than 20 years of experience litigating criminal and civil matters.

Goelman joined the CFTC from the law firm Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, where was a litigation partner for 11 years, with a practice focused on white collar crime and complex commercial litigation.

Background[edit]

Goelman previously served in the Department of Justice for nine years, including as an Assistant U. S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and as a Special Attorney to the U.S. Attorney General. At the DOJ, he handled white-collar criminal cases involving bank, wire, mail and securities fraud, as well as RICO, and violent crimes. He was one of the trial lawyers that convicted the Oklahoma City bombers.[2] He also represented Jonathan Hollander, a former employee at a unit of SAC Capital Advisors, the hedge fund run by the billionaire investor Steven A. Cohen, in an insider trading investigation.
