Alex Oh was appointed director of the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on April 22, 2021 by SEC Chairman Gary Gensler.[1] She resigned six days later after a judge questioned her conduct in a lawsuit involving Exxon Mobil.[2]

Previously she was a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and co-chair of the law firm’s anticorruption and foreign-bribery practice group.[3]


Earlier, Oh was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she was a member of the Securities & Commodities Fraud Task Force and the Major Crimes Unit. During her tenure, she was the lead trial lawyer in numerous jury trials.

She is a member of the New York City Bar Association. She previously served as a trustee for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and on the board of trustees of the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. Oh also served on the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.


Oh earned a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Williams College.
