Occupation CEO
Employer NatWest

Alison Rose was the CEO of NatWest, formerly the Royal Bank of Scotland. She was named to the role in September 2019 and started in November 2019. Rose is the first woman to head up one of the large European banks. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s name was changed to NatWest in 2020.[1]

She was forced to resign from NatWest in July 2023 over leaking Nigel Farage’s private information to the BBC.[2]

Rose succeeded Ross McEwan, who left to join National Australia Bank as CEO. One of Rose's main tasks was to lead the transition for RBS to become a fully private bank by 2024. The British government owned 62 percent of the bank, a leftover investment from the global financial crisis and rescue by the UK government.[3]

Background[edit]

Before taking the top post at RBS, she worked at the bank for 27 years and served as deputy CEO of NatWest, RBS's largest subsidiary. She also led the firm's commercial and private lending business.

Earlier, she served as head of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Markets and International Banking.

She is also a strong supporter or diversity and women in business.[4]

Education[edit]

Rose is a graduate of Durham University.
